Life-long Friends

Long ago we met as teenage nurses

Shared hopes and dreams

And sun-filled days of youthful fun

Our special life-long friendship had begun.

Our paths diverged – we worked in different lands,

Marriage and kids – tragedy too.

We kept in touch, year after year –

Sisters forever,  though never near.

Voices unheard for decades past

Appearance changed so much –

But how we felt was just the same

We always knew our trust would last.

Even when faith-changes came

And for a time took different paths –

Our love still strong, was just the same

As in those far off days, long past
